Generation Kill – Offspring #2

Generation Kill – Offspring #2 is closely related to Generation Kill (2012), but takes
some very different perspectives, literally and metaphorically. In Offspring #2, there’s
only one performer: Dries Tack. With a game controller, he controls video recordings
made of himself playing clarinet or bass clarinet in five different locations outside the
concert hall: on a deserted ice skate rink, in a busy coffee bar, in a shopping mall,
under an abandoned bridge at a canal in Gent, and in a small, urban park after
sundown. Each time, he seems to be a different version of himself, dressed
differently, playing differently.

On stage, during the live performance of Offspring #2, Dries creates a musical
narrative in which different relations between these avatars start to unfold, and in
which, gradually, the focus shifts to their surroundings, from the performed music to
the environmental sounds of the spaces they inhabit.

Generation Kill – Offspring #2 was premiered in the context of the evening-length,
site-specific Nadar project “Der Wanderer 2.0”, performed alongside
“FITTINGinSIDE”, “Piano Hero #3” and “Mesh”.
