Necessity, that is how we can succinctly sum up this program of the Nadar Summer School in collaboration with DE SINGEL, Gaudeamus, Warwaw Autumn and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. Necessity for a festival to program unknown young composers to keep its finger on the pulse of what is going on in society today. Necessity for an ensemble to keep looking for new talent, fresh ideas and new forms of collaboration. Necessity for Iranian Golnaz Shariatzadeh and Polish Piotr Peszat to speak out, metaphorically or otherwise, about the political situation in their country today. Necessity for England’s Christine Cornwell and Romanian Adriana Minu to explore the hierarchical relationship between composer and musician through a co-creation process. Necessity for Scotsman Craig Scott to build his own instruments from economic reality, seeking the tension between the human and the mechanical.

With a background in Jazz and Improvised music – performer, composer and creative technologist Craig Scott (b.1987, Scotland) creates sound works for human and non-human performers. Using handmade analogue hardware, robotics, modified obsolete audio technology and improvising human musicians to explore the disquieting tension that exists between human and machine made music.
A fluid architecture made from hair and skin, swallows peoples’ pain and turns them into ethereal spaces. At its core, sit the grieving mothers weaving a fabric of light that feeds the building.
This fabric begins with a strand of hair that runs through the building, becomes the mother’s umbilical cord and strengthens the bodies through the narrow alleys.

Regarding the scene with the eye: Many Iranian women have been shot in one eye during the protests.
“PEnderSZATch Rising” by Piotr Peszat is a multimedia piece based on a paragraph concept, i.e. is constructed from several segments and choices that are structured in a question-and-answer form.
Wat gebeurt er als muzikanten naar de hemel gaan? Hebben ze een keuze? Kunnen ze engelenmuziek horen? Ontmoeten ze god? Slechts één?
Achter elk muziekstuk schuilen duizenden uren van intimiteit. Intimiteit in vibrerende lucht, in lichamen, tussen instrumenten en lichamen, in razende uitbarstingen, in kortstondige gedachten, in overgebleven snoeppapiertjes op muziekstandaards. Als publiek ben je betrokken of ontsnap je er soms aan. 'Between you and me' is een verzameling van individuele muzikale genoegens die Christine en Adriana hebben samengesteld uit de intimiteiten van hun samenwerking met elkaar en de muzikanten van Nadar ensemble.
