Nadar Residency #6 Nico Couck

Eveline Vervliet, Oscar Bianchi, Jacob ter Veldhuis

This programme focuses on the electric guitar as more than just an instrument: it is a sonic archive, a culturally charged sound machine. In Oscar Bianchi’s Ballerina, the guitar is stripped down to its rawest essence – a series of gritty sounds that evokes echoes of psychedelic rock and the expressiveness of distortion. Eveline Vervliet goes a step further: her new work uses the guitar as input for an AI tool she built herself, which generates sounds based on a database full of guitar fragments. from pop history. The result is a game between man, machine and memory. Originally for saxophone and tape, Grab It! by Jacob Ter Veldhuis takes on new layers in this arrangement: the tape remains, everything else gives way to a dialogue between fragments of text and guitar playing that reframes the instrument’s legacy.
