In Rhino, Panayiotis Kokoras explores a completely new palette of sounds on the sax by using a special ultra-thin synthetic reed. The variety of acoustic effects and timbres is thus spectacularly expanded, and in this work also combined with an electronic tape. GenoĆ«l von Lilienstern’s TAL and DOM, for sax and cello with electronics respectively, create an overwhelming wall of sound with their repetitive patterns and distorted sounds.
